A couple of weeks ago, MrK and I decided to look at other display homes so we can have an idea on certain things that we were still undecided on.
Let's address the retaining wall and fence. I do love the idea of a wood fencing like this instead of the usual Colorbond. It just has a nice warm homey feel to it but here comes MrK raining on my parade hahaha. He pointed out that having the wood panels would mean that we need to maintain it with paint or sealant and not to mention the possibilities of termite infestation etc. not to mention that it might be more costly to do. So I guess this may not be a possibility hey MrK.
I am still intent on having a wood side entrance gate though... hopefully this will fly with my boss aka MrK lol
With a rather small backyard (like this one), I think the only choice is to keep it simple in terms of plants and the retaining wall. Ours will look like this because we have the wooden acoustic wall behind us (as our backyard is facing a street) so I can really envision ours to be something like this indeed.
Front of the house idea would be something like this low maintenance garden. With me working and MrK afraid to venture in the garden unless its just a simple mowing jobs, then this will suit us. All I need to do is ask the kids to take charge in watering it lol.
Our open plan living and dining will be sort of like this but in reverse. The right side is our dinning and the left being the living area as we have a bulkhead or a large niche to house our tv unit.
Still having a second thought if its white/light or black/dark ceasarstone benchtop bearing in mind that we have white cabinetry.
This will be our wall colour - Taubmans Foxdale which is a warm gray with a Crisp White trimmings. This is how it looks like when there is some source of light like an open door. The picture following this is when there is not much light. I am confident that it will be alright as we have widened both our stacker doors leading to the terrazza as well as the full length windows in the dinning area so more natural lights can flood the room.
I have settled the tile colour for the bathroom (see post prior to this) and I am hoping to get this kind of cabinetry as well.
As for our window furnishings. We are opting for roller blinds for the rest of the house (except the front of the house which is also our master bedroom). Having a plain roller blinds may not be an option ...
Here is what I will be ordering for LittleMiss' room window
Here is what I will be ordering for LittleMaster's room window
Now its a different story for the two full length windows in our dinning area ... Here are some of my ideas remembering that we have a warm gray wall so I need a pop of colour in there ... Can you help me choose?
For the front of the house (where our room is), we are investing (and splurging abit) to get plantation shutters just for curb appeal purpose :)
Some ideas that I may do but I am sure this is waaaay after the build is finish. I like the look of this towel rail which is both functional as well as decorative...
And the DIYer in me said that I will be making some crafting for our wall decorations. This I am thinking of making for LittleMiss' wall ... A good inspirational quote will definitely be nice. Simple but effective and not expensive at all.
Again, still thinking of what kind of pendant light to put in the kitchen. Do I go for the industrial look (like this one) or classics or modern .... still thinking
This is how our bricks will look like upfront ...
... and this is how our bricks will look like from afar. Loove dark bricks. Ours is called Blackbutt. This is how ours will look like as well because our roof is dark like this (Coal) Basalt (dark grey) for the gutter and Surfmist (almost like white) for fascia which is similar to this house.
2017 will be a very busy yet exciting year for us.
Thank you for joining us in our journey.
See you in our next post.
