Let's Talk Tiles

Last Sunday 15.01.2017 we decided to visit the tile supplier Beaumont Tiles that is nearest to our house to get an idea of what tiles we can have for our floor and bathroom and perhaps for our backsplash and let me tell you, its very confusing ... or is it just our two cheeky monkeys being abit bored and annoyed lol.

Here are some of the many tiles they have

Confused yet MrK?

MrK looking at our possible Ceasarstone  benchtop colour versus our possible floor tiles?

We decided to make our floor tiles light and bright but not white (as our walls are a medium warm grey)

Tada... meet the winner for our floor tiles - Solutions Grey Gloss.  MrK and I both like it, not white but a bright grey and has textures as well.

Some of the selections for bathroom floor tiles ... not much but we are thinking that when we go to their head office where we will do our colour selection, there will be more variations.

We are thinking of reversing the colours in the bathroom ... so light walls and dark floor tiles

This tiles is more like a concrete/ bare cement, nice but not getting me (and yes that price is for ONE tile)

Deep thoughts on our benchtop MrK?

This is one of the contender which is also my choice for a light benchtop. This is called London Grey.

And this is what MrK prefers - Frosty Carrina.

But the winner is this lovely dark grey (not black) Raven that both MrK and I agreed on taking into account that our cabinetry is white or light couloured ones.  Having it against a white background give us abit of an idea of the contrast. Nice !

Now off to see some possible backsplash perhaps ...

Not bad ...

This one is nice too with a brown undertone.

I love this one but with this colour it will be a washout versus a white cabinetry... me think lol

This one is nice too but don't you think its too much grey with the walls and the benchtop? Hmmmm

Now this is one of the ones I like too ... I like the pattern and the texture. In real life, it has some streaks more like marble effect. Nice indeed with black grouting would make it stand out.

I was telling MrK we need a pop of colour... and he brought me this... sure

This one is one of those top ones that I want. Imagine this with white grouting - excellent. Abit on the dear side but I reckon with our backsplash not being that huge, I might be able to convince MrK to get this ... now matte or gloss?

We had a great (but confusing) time but definitely gave us an idea on where we stand with out tiles ....
Thanks for joining us in our journey and see you in our next post.

Inside and Outside Inspirations (again)

A couple of weeks ago, MrK and I decided to look at other display homes so we can have an idea on certain things that we were still undecided on.
Let's address the retaining wall and fence.  I do love the idea of a wood fencing like this instead of the usual Colorbond.  It just has a nice warm homey feel to it but here comes MrK raining on my parade hahaha. He pointed out that having the wood panels would mean that we need to maintain it with paint or sealant and not to mention the possibilities of termite infestation etc. not to mention that it might be more costly to do.  So I guess this may not be a possibility hey MrK.

I am still intent on having a wood side entrance gate though... hopefully this will fly with my boss aka MrK lol

With a rather small backyard (like this one), I think the only choice is to keep it simple in terms of plants and the retaining wall. Ours will look like this because we have the wooden acoustic wall behind us (as our backyard is facing a street) so I can really envision ours to be something like this indeed.

Front of the house idea would be something like this low maintenance garden. With me working and MrK afraid to venture in the garden unless its just a simple mowing jobs, then this will suit us.  All I need to do is ask the kids to take charge in watering it lol.

Our open plan living and dining will be sort of like this but in reverse.  The right side is our dinning and the left being the living area as we have a bulkhead or a large niche to house our tv unit.

Still having a second thought if its white/light or black/dark ceasarstone benchtop bearing in mind that we have white cabinetry.

This will be our wall colour - Taubmans Foxdale which is a warm gray with a Crisp White trimmings.  This is how it looks like when there is some source of light like an open door. The picture following this is when there is not much light.  I am confident that it will be alright as we have widened both our stacker doors leading to the terrazza as well as the full length windows in the dinning area so more natural lights can flood the room.

I have settled the tile colour for the bathroom (see post prior to this) and I am hoping to get this kind of cabinetry as well.

As for our window furnishings.  We are opting for roller blinds for the rest of the house (except the front of the house which is also our master bedroom).  Having a plain roller blinds may not be an option ...

Here is what I will be ordering for LittleMiss' room window

Here is what I will be ordering for LittleMaster's room window

Now its a different story for the two full length windows in our dinning area ... Here are some of my ideas remembering that we have a warm gray wall so I need a pop of colour in there ... Can you help me choose?

For the front of the house (where our room is), we are investing (and splurging abit) to get plantation shutters just for curb appeal purpose :)

Some ideas that I may do but I am sure this is waaaay after the build is finish.  I like the look of this towel rail which is both functional as well as decorative...

And the DIYer in me said that I will be making some crafting for our wall decorations.  This I am thinking of making for LittleMiss' wall ... A good inspirational quote will definitely be nice. Simple but effective and not expensive at all.

Again, still thinking of what kind of pendant light to put in the kitchen.  Do I go for the industrial look (like this one) or classics or modern .... still thinking

This is how our bricks will look like upfront  ...

... and this is how our bricks will look like from afar.  Loove dark bricks.  Ours is called Blackbutt.  This is how ours will look like as well because our roof is dark like this (Coal) Basalt (dark grey) for the gutter and Surfmist (almost like white) for fascia which is similar to this house.

2017 will be a very busy yet exciting year for us.
Thank you for joining us in our journey.
See you in our next post.

Thinking Tiles

Its 2017 and that means that we are counting down the months when our humble home will start to take its own shape.  Having that in mind, I have again started to do some mental notes on what we wish to have in our home ... Last night when sleep was just one of those elusive commodity, I used my time to view some tiles on the net.
We were told by Beechwood that our tile supplier is Beaumont Tiles in Prospect.  From forums that I occasionally go into, people were saying that as long as we are within the $27.80/sq meter budget then we can choose whatever tiles that we want.  Here are some of the possibilities and crossing our fingers that they are still available when it's our time to choose our floor tiles.

This tile is my second choice. I do love the idea of a wood grained look/feel for our floor.  I am keeping it on the light shade for our floor as our we have a warm gray wall.

This is my first choice. There is still the grain texture but is lighter than the one above

I have seen this in another tile supplier called TFO (Tile Factory Outlet) and with this price per square meter, I might have to convince our builder if they can get this for us ... If we can then I will definitely go for this for sure.

For our bathroom, we are keeping it simple so I am going for this medium gray and just dressing it up with some feature tiles.

The following are some of what we are considering for our splash tiles. Personally I wanted this and the next one but MrK has other ideas ...

The next two are MrK's choices ... what do you think?

Thinking of this as one of the possible feature tiles in the bathroom but we are still open to other ideas...

I am sure that at some point we will change our minds again but for now I am putting this in my mental notes so I wont forget ....

Thanks for reading and joining us in our journey ....
See you in our next post :)
